ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – US President Donald Trump has confirmed he will attend a planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at exploring a path to peace in Ukraine. Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Friday that “They both want me there, and I’ll be there.”
Trump described the summit with Putin in Alaska as a “10,” noting that the meeting was warm and productive, though no final agreement was reached. He said he and Putin “largely” agreed on land swaps and some form of US security guarantee for Ukraine, but stressed that the next steps depend on Zelensky’s agreement. “Now it’s really up to President Zelensky to get it done,” Trump said.
The US president also suggested he would delay imposing any new sanctions on Russia for the moment, saying the Alaska talks had gone “very well.” He added that a ceasefire or deal would take careful negotiation and that previous predictions that the war would be easy to resolve had been overly optimistic.
Analysts noted that while Trump presented the summit positively, Putin left with key advantages, including international visibility and additional time to consolidate military efforts. The next trilateral meeting, reportedly to include Trump, Putin, and Zelensky, is expected to set the stage for further negotiations, though details remain unclear.
Trump also indicated that he will reach out to NATO leaders and Zelensky in the coming days to discuss the summit outcomes and potential steps toward a peace framework.
