India Independence Day marked by 79 years of unstoppable development

MBABANE – The High Commission of India in Eswatini which commemorated the 79th Independence Day of India shared that since 1947 the country gained independence from the British, it has achieved major developments in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, Information Technology and Space exploration, among other fields, that make the country the fourth largest economy now.

On the day of celebration which was held at the India House in Thembelihle, Mbabane, the High Commissioner to Eswatini, H.E. Mr. Ram Prasad led the Indian community and friends of India in rendering the Indian national anthem and the hoisting of Indian Tricolour.

The event was also marked by the reading by Prasad of the President of India’s Address to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day which highlighted the sacrifices made by freedom fighters for getting independence from the colonial yoke. 

India, the 4th largest economy, has a GDP growth rate of 6.5% in 2024-25 financial year and made advancements in the last decade.

It provided basic necessities like drinking water to all (Jal Jeevan Mission), built national highways (Bharatmala Pariyojana) to enhance economic growth, digitised most government services and banking, etc. through UPI, 5G network and Direct Benefit Transfer, to name some. 

India’s “Make in India” initiative and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) schemes, continue to make the country less dependent on other nations. India has also provided employment opportunities to Indian artisans, craftsmen as well as entrepreneurs.

Prasad shared that the carrying out of Operation Sindoor on May 7 used only Indian-made weapons which was a testament of the prowess of India’s indigenous manufacturing.

The children also made speeches both in English and Hindi, highlighting the sacrifices prior to India gaining independence, contributing towards “Viksit Bharat 2047” (Developed India Mission) and performers were honoured by the High Commissioner and Mrs. Vijayalakshmi with gifts appreciating their talent.
