Soweto – One person was killed and two others injured after e-hailing vehicles came under attack at Maponya Mall on Wednesday evening, Gauteng police confirmed.
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) in Gauteng announced plans to meet with provincial transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela following the violent incident.

Graham Fritz, Santaco provincial secretary, condemned the murder of a driver and the shootings of another driver and a passer-by. He called for restraint from the public, warning that unfounded accusations against the taxi industry could harm its reputation and interfere with investigations.
“Violence in any form has no place in our society. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” Fritz said.
Police are investigating the attack, while community members gathered at the mall to support drivers from e-hailing companies including Uber and Bolt.
