Mbabane – The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping young people in Eswatini with skills and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the country’s future.
EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, made the remarks on 14 August 2025 in Gege Constituency during the national commemoration of International Youth Day, attended by Prime Minister Russell Dlamini and Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima.
Mecklenburg said the EU’s support is driven by the belief that the youth are not only future leaders but also active agents of change in the present.
Through its Human Capital Development and Social Inclusion Programme, the EU is working to empower young Emaswati with skills that will enable them to take a leading role in advancing national development objectives.
The Ambassador expressed hope that such empowerment would allow youth to “take the driver’s seat” in shaping the country’s progress, thereby improving the quality of life for all citizens.
He noted that the EU’s Youth Action Plan, adopted in 2022, seeks to engage, connect and empower young people, and is aligned with the Eswatini National Youth Policy and the National Development Plan.
