Over 550 residents of Mayiwane have received Amaranth (imbuya) and African nightshade (umsobo) seed kits aimed at improving food security and nutrition.
The distribution took place over the weekend under the Taiwan Africa Vegetable Initiative – Eswatini, in partnership with the Taiwan Medical Mission in Eswatini. The project also included nutrition education sessions and a food tasting, where community members sampled meals prepared from the vegetables and learned cooking methods that preserve their nutritional value.
The initiative targets sustainable livelihoods by encouraging households to grow the vegetables for subsistence use, with the potential to improve both diet quality and income.
Mayiwane Member of Parliament Sicelo Dlamini welcomed the programme, noting that he would continue urging residents to adopt healthier eating habits through the cultivation and consumption of the vegetables.
