Six men arrested for drinking and driving

MBABANE – At least six drivers were arrested for drinking and driving over the weekend and charged for contravening the Road Traffic Act No: 6 of 2007 in Mbabane. They appeared at the Mbabane Magistrates Court facing varied fines. 

  • Thando Maseko Liswati (44) Ezulwini. 

On August 9, at about 0147 hours along D36 public road, Ezulwini, the accused being the driver of a Honda fit sedan, did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle on the said public road whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug having narcotic effect. 

The alcohol reading was 0.48 mg/l.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined E700 or four months imprisonment.

On August 8, 2025, at about 2040 hrs along D38 public road, Lozitha, the said accused being the driver of a Mazda sedan wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle on the said public road whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug having narcotic effect.

The alcohol reading was 0.39 mg/l.

He pleaded guilty to the charge. He was fined E500 or to spend three months in prison.

  • Thulani Ndaba (45) of Esitsheni.

On March 9, 2025 at about 1410 hours along MR 103 public road, Lobamba, the said accused being the driver of motor vehicle LSD 481 did wrongfully and unlawfully occupy the driver’s seat of the said motor vehicle having narcotic effect.

The alcohol reading was 1.02 mg/l.

He pleaded guilty and was fined E1000 or 8 months imprisonment. 

  • Wakhile Dlamini (32) of Ezulwini. 

On August 9, 2025, at about 0308 hours,along D36 public road, Ezulwini, being the driver of a Mazda sedan, did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle on the said public road whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug having narcotic effect.

The alcohol reading was 0.60 mg/l.

He pleaded guilty and was fined E1000 or 8 months.

  • Mxolisi Khumalo (22) of Ngonini.

On July 28, 2025, at about 1600 hours along Spintex public road, Ezulwini, the said accused: being the driver of a Honda sedan, did wrongfully, unlawfully and negligently drive the said motor vehicle on the said public road and was side swiped by a Toyota LDV driven by Sipho Nkonyane (59) of Elangeni.

Particulars of negligent driving 

  1. He failed to keep left, encroached on a solid line and cut a curve; 
  2. He failed to apply brakes on time; 
  3. He failed to avoid an accident a reasonable driver would have avoided.

On August 9, 2025, at about 2331 hours, along along D38 public road, Elangeni, the said accused being the driver of a Mitsubish Colt did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle on the said public road whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug having narcotic effect.

The alcohol reading was 0.46 mg/l.

Pleaded not guilty to the offense and paid E2000 bail.
