LUBOMBO – Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla handed over newly built houses to three families in the Lubombo region, marking a major milestone in a joint effort between government and the private sector to uplift communities.
The handovers took place under a partnership involving the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and Maloma Colliery. The collaboration has so far delivered seven houses across the region, with three officially presented to beneficiaries this week.
One of the recipients was the late Gogo Elizabeth Myeni (95), who was allocated a one-room house with a pantry. She sadly passed away before the handover, and the DPM said her family, together with the Umphakatsi, will determine who takes ownership of the property.
Another home was handed to Zephaniah Xaba (58) from Mabantaneni under Lubulini Inkhundla. Xaba expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King, the Deputy Prime Minister, and Maloma Colliery, and called for more such initiatives to reach those in need.
Zodwa Gamedze (42) of Ncandweni received a fully completed two-bedroom house after appealing to His Majesty for assistance in finishing her home. She said she was grateful for the support and thanked the DPM for seeing the project through.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dladla acknowledged the role of collective efforts in driving development and said the Rural Development Fund (RDF) continues to empower communities to build better futures.
Maloma Colliery’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Chairperson, Myzo Magagula, said the project reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of citizens and supporting the King’s vision of shelter for all.
