MASERU – The Government of Japan has committed over M24 million to support Lesotho’s ongoing efforts to curb food insecurity, with funds directed toward feeding programmes in early childhood centres.
The pledge was formalised on Thursday, 31 July, through an Exchange of Notes signed between Japan and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The funding will provide food assistance to Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) centres across Lesotho.
Young children enrolled in these centres will receive canned fish, maize meal, and fresh vegetables aimed at boosting their nutrition and overall wellbeing. The vegetables will be sourced directly from local Basotho farmers, offering additional economic benefit to communities.
