MBABANE – Suzuki’s Grand Vitara is back on local roads with a refreshed look and a promise to deliver value, style, and performance for buyers seeking a premium SUV experience.
The flagship model returned to showrooms last year, replacing the outgoing Vitara nameplate and stepping up as the Japanese automaker’s top offering after the departure of the compact Fronx crossover. While the Fronx was marketed as a spiritual successor to the Vitara Brezza, the Grand Vitara clearly aims higher, boasting more space, features, and refinement.
First introduced to Southern African markets in 2008, the Grand Vitara badge disappeared briefly before being reintroduced as part of a manufacturing collaboration between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor in India. The model is now sold locally alongside its Toyota production sibling, the Urban Cruiser.

Measuring 4,340mm in length, the Grand Vitara stretches well beyond the tax-friendly dimensions of its Brezza predecessor, offering more space and presence. It rides on the same 210mm ground clearance as the Jimny, making it a capable option for Eswatini’s rougher rural roads and urban potholes alike.
Priced at E453,900, the GLX automatic trim is the second-most expensive Grand Vitara in the range. Only the mild hybrid all-wheel drive version commands a higher price, coming in with a roughly E99,000 premium. Both variants feature the same upmarket GLX trim, but the all-wheel drive version adds mild electric support and enhanced traction.
Under the bonnet is Suzuki’s tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 77kW and 138Nm. It’s paired with a four-speed automatic transmission that favours ease over speed, ideal for those who prefer a relaxed driving experience. Suzuki claims a fuel economy of six litres per 100km.
Inside, the cabin is dressed in leatherette with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standout features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad, 360-degree surround view camera, head-up display, ambient lighting, and keyless start/stop.

On the outside, the SUV sports a striking bicolour finish, with a silver body matched to black roof and mirror caps. Its design nods to the original Grand Vitara, featuring a bold multi-level grille, LED light bar at the rear, three-point LED daytime running lights, silver roof rails, and 17-inch machine-polished alloy wheels.
Safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, ABS with electronic brake assist, and rear parking sensors.
The Grand Vitara is backed by a six-year/90,000km service plan and a five-year/200,000km warranty, positioning it as a compelling package in the competitive SUV segment.
