MAHWALALA – A man from Mahwalala, Vumani Mavuso, was granted bail after he was charged with stealing a cellphone and cash from a parked car in the area.
The accused, who is a father of two, appeared before the Mbabane Magistrates Court where he admitted to stealing a Hisense cellphone worth E1,000 but denied taking E600 in cash, which was also reported missing from the vehicle.
Mavuso chose to represent himself during the hearing and told the court he knew the victim, a detail that prosecutors said may complicate the matter further.
The court granted him bail fixed at E2,000, with an alternative option of serving two years in prison should he fail to pay. Strict bail conditions were set, including a warning not to commit a similar offence, to avoid interfering with crown witnesses, and to attend all scheduled court proceedings. The magistrate warned that any violation would lead to his bail being revoked.
The case was postponed to 28 July to allow police to continue investigations, and Mavuso will remain behind bars if the bail amount is not paid.
