MBABANE – The Minister of Finance held a closed-door meeting with representatives from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on Friday, ahead of a major regional summit set to take place in Eswatini next year.
The meeting, held in Mbabane, formed part of a UNECA scoping mission aimed at preparing the country to host the 31st Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts (ICSOE) for Southern Africa in October 2025.
The delegation’s visit kickstarts consultations with key stakeholders who will be involved in the organisation and content of the high-level gathering.
The 2025 session will run under the theme “Unlocking AfCFTA’s Potential: Building Value Chains and Overcoming Barriers to Trade in Southern Africa.”
Discussions focused on logistics, expected participation from Southern African countries, and aligning the event with the country’s development goals and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda.
