Matsapha – Mankayane United has officially secured a place in the 2025/26 National First Division (NFD) after acquiring the league status of Piggs Peak Rangers. The deal, finalized between the two clubs for an undisclosed fee, marks a historic leap for Mankayane after years in the third-tier Super League.
Club CEO Nkosinathi Mkhaliphi confirmed the development on Friday (11 July 2025). “Yes, we have successfully acquired the status of NFD Piggs Peak Rangers after the completion of paperwork today,” he said.
Mankayane United narrowly missed promotion in the 2023/24 season, finishing second behind Lozitha Spurs in the Super League. Their consistent performance over four seasons had made them strong contenders for a move up the football ladder.
Mkhaliphi acknowledged the gravity of the club’s new chapter, describing it as a “huge step” for everyone involved. However, he also expressed caution, noting the competitiveness of the NFD and the need for an experienced technical setup.
“We understand that the NFD demands strong management and the right playing personnel. We are currently in the process of identifying a head coach who will help us build a competitive squad,” Mkhaliphi added.
The new head coach and key player signings are expected to be unveiled in the coming days as Mankayane gears up for its first-ever season in the NFD.
