Eswatini records 2nd COVID-19 Death, 4 new cases

Mbabane: Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi has announced second COVID-19 death and 4 new COVID-19 cases, which makes the total number of cases grow to 123.

Nkosi revealed this unfortunate news at the cabinet offices today where giving update of COVID-19.

Nkosi revealed that the death confirmed case was a 57 years old male from Manzini Region who was admitted at the Lubombo Referral Hospital. He was managed under oxygen support and under medication. He was in stable-severe condition which deteriorated rapidly, attempts to resuscitate him were not successful hence he passed away on May 6, 2020.

Independent News established that the death case was a manager in one of the retail shops in Manzini.

Nkos revealed that today the Ministry received 125 results, of which 121 tested negative and the four (4) tested positive. This means now the number of cases confirmed in Eswatini are now 123.

Case #120 is a 20 years old Male from Manzini Region, is a contact of a positive case and he presented mild symptoms.

Case #121 is a 31 years old male from Hhohho region, is a contact of a positive case and asymptomatic.

Case #122 is a 45 years old female from Manzini Region, is a contact of a positive case and had mild symptoms.

Case #123 is a 25 years old female from Manzini Region, who is contact of a positive case and had mild symptoms.

Nkosi further went on to urge people with diabetics and heart problems to be more vigilant on their health conditions as it has proven that this are the ones who often have a problem in sustaining COVID-19.

The Ministry of health wishes to encourage the public to continue observing all precautions given by the ministry and World Health Organization (WHO).

Nkosi went on to appreciate health workers who have continued to work diligently in taking care of the patients on the ground.

The Minister urged emaSwati to avoid public gatherings be it parties, traditional weddings or anything that will bring a lot of people together. She encouraged the nation to continue practicing social distancing.

The Ministry of Health continues to urge the public to wash their hands frequently with soap and running water or use hand sanitizer and to observe hand hygiene always, avoiding touching their faces, and avoiding close contact with (staying at least one meter away from) other people

When coughing or sneezing people are urged to cover to cover their mouth or preferably use a face mask.

 The public is also urged to cooperate with rapid response teams as they go about their duties of finding contacts of positive cases.
