GABORONE – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has convened its 43rd Audit and Risk Committee meeting in Botswana to review the bloc’s financial operations and assess the effectiveness of internal control systems across its institutions.
The three-day meeting, which runs from 9 to 11 July 2025, is being held in Gaborone and chaired by Eswatini’s Portia Mamba, an Auditor in the Ministry of Finance. Committee members were drawn from Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia, and Seychelles.
The Committee, which serves as an advisory body to the SADC Council of Ministers, is tasked with evaluating the region’s financial management systems, scrutinising audit reports, and ensuring that risks are adequately mitigated. It also examines the performance of the SADC Secretariat with a focus on efficiency and value for money.
Members are appointed on a rotational basis from participating Member States, and their role is grounded in the provisions of the SADC Treaty.
The Committee’s work is aimed at strengthening accountability, safeguarding public resources, and ensuring that Member States collaborate in upholding governance principles.
