Nyakeni – A girlfriend to a businessman has been accused of stealing more than E200 000 from his safe.
The 30-year-old woman was identified as a person of interest after Moses Matsebula (69) filed a complaint at the Manzini Police Station on May 10, 2025.
An investigation was immediately launched. The investigation began around the second week of May, after the businessman reported that about E288 000, which he had kept in a safe at his residence located at Nyakeni, had grown legs.
Police investigators processed the scene for possible clues, and reached the conclusion that the man’s romantic partner could assist with information that could aid their investigation.
A source disclosed that it was discovered that the culprit apparently gained access to the safe while the pair lived together.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the money was stolen piece meal, at different intervals where different amounts were involved, and over a prolonged period of time.
Although the couple was still dating, they now lived separately, according to residents. They mentioned that the businessman was staying at his residence, which is located around Nyakeni, while the woman resided at her parental homestead of Lonhlupheko.
Information reaching this publication indicated that Hlengiwe Sithole (30) was traced to her place and apprehended on Sunday morning, shortly after 8 am.
Her arraignment was expected soon, according to authorities.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati acknowledged receiving a report about the crime and the eventual arrest.
