Malkerns — From August 1 to 2, House On Fire will host South African food and art innovators as part of the Luju Festival 2025. The event will showcase a fusion of heritage, flavours, and creativity over two days, attracting audiences eager to experience South Africa’s rich cultural expressions.
Onezwa Mbola, a former marine navigational officer in China turned heritage cook, will present her signature Asian dumplings alongside traditional dishes such as umvubo and imfino. Her culinary journey is deeply personal, inspired by reconnecting with her late mother, and she has gained recognition through her appearances on MasterChef South Africa.
Roushanna Gray, founder of Veld and Sea, will lead workshops that explore South Africa’s natural edible landscape. Attendees will learn about seasonal wild foods, including coastal foraging in summer and flower harvesting in spring, all while engaging with sustainable living practices.
Ceramic artist Andile Dyalvane will exhibit his large-scale works inspired by his Xhosa roots. His art serves as a bridge between healing and tradition, cementing his status as a prominent voice in contemporary African art.
The brand Masipheke, meaning “Let’s cook together,” will celebrate traditional South African comfort foods. This initiative honours the memory of a grandfather through shared meals that connect generations, culture, and storytelling.
