Mbabane – The Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC) brought together government and civil society partners on Wednesday to review progress and refine plans for a gender-responsive biodiversity conservation initiative currently being implemented in the country.
The meeting, held under the “Accelerating Systemic Change for Gender Equality and Biodiversity Conservation through NBSAPs” project, brought together members of the Eswatini Core Country Team. Attending the session were representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Eswatini Environment Authority, Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisations (CANGO), PELUM Eswatini, Woman Farmer Foundation, and ENTC.
The project is part of a global initiative supported by Global Affairs Canada and implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), UNDP, and the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT.
Discussions during the session focused on two main areas: using new tools to explore how gender and biodiversity interact in Eswatini’s context, and refining the national implementation plan to make sure it aligns with local needs, is inclusive, and matches existing policy priorities.
