Harare, Zimbabwe – Ministers and senior officials from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) wrapped up the 43rd Joint Meeting on Energy and Water this week, focusing on regional strategies to tackle energy supply, water management, and climate resilience.
The meeting was officially opened by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Energy and Power Development, July G. Moyo, at a prominent venue in Harare. Eswatini was represented by Principal Secretary Lindiwe Mbingo, alongside Acting Minister HRH Prince Lonkhokhela, directors from energy and water departments, and parliamentarians including Deputy Speaker Hon. Madala Mhlanga and Senator Princess Nkosungumenzi.
Over two days, delegates reviewed priority generation and transmission projects, renewable energy initiatives, energy efficiency, and innovative technologies such as green hydrogen and smart grids. Discussions also covered groundwater management, sanitation projects, and a review of the SADC Water Policy.
The meeting addressed growing energy demand in the region, the challenges of climate change, and the importance of private sector involvement in the sector. Zimbabwe’s Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Hon Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka, closed the session, which ended with decisions aimed at strengthening energy and water security across SADC member states.
