LIVERPOOL – Liverpool Football Club has opened physical and online books of condolence to honour the sudden deaths of Portuguese forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.
The physical condolence books are available for signing at the Anfield Road Stand reception area over four days. On Thursday, July 3, fans were able to pay their respects between 5pm and 9pm. The venue will reopen on Friday from 9am to 9pm, Saturday from 9am to 5pm, and Sunday, July 6, during the same hours.
A digital version has been set up for supporters around the world who wish to leave messages. Flags at Anfield have been lowered to half-mast, and all club stores, museums and stadium tours will remain closed until Monday, July 7. Support services have been extended to staff affected by the loss.
The tragedy has left the club reeling, with tributes pouring in from players, staff and supporters. Head coach Arne Slot, who recently joined the team, spoke of the deep sorrow felt by the Liverpool community. His statement reflected not only professional grief but also personal pain.
Slot recalled congratulating Jota recently for winning the UEFA Nations League and wishing him well ahead of his upcoming wedding. He described the loss as a cruel end to what should have been a joyful chapter in the player’s life.
He praised Jota for his humility, warmth and footballing talent, noting that his impact went beyond goals and assists. “Not a friend to two people, a friend to everyone,” he said.
Slot’s message to Jota’s family was direct: “You will never walk alone.” He offered condolences to Jota’s wife, Rute, their children, and the parents of both brothers.
Jota, who became a fan favourite since joining Liverpool, was known for his relentless work ethic, clinical finishing and quiet strength. His sudden death has stunned the global football fraternity, with tributes continuing to pour in from clubs, players and fans.
The club has not announced plans for a memorial but indicated there would be a time to celebrate Jota’s legacy.
The online book of condolence is available to be signed here, and is accessible to fans across the globe.
