Eswatini records 2 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, number stands at 108

Mbabane: Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi has announced 2 more new COVID-19 cases, tolling up to 108 confirmed cases.

The two new cases are from Manzini.

Announcing results, the Minister of Health through the statement stated that today the ministry of health received 109 results, out of which 107 tested negative and two (2) positive.

Case #107 is a 21 year old male from Manzini Region who is a contact of a positive case and is asymptomatic.

Case #108 is a 21 year old female from Manzini Region who is a contact of a positive case and is asymptomatic.

Nkosi revealed that 47 of the confirmed cases are admitted, 46 are under home care, 12 discharged and one (1) death. The newly diagnosed cases are to on their way to be admitted at the hospital for treatment.

Manzini has recorded 70 cases, followed by Hhohho with 23, Lubombo 13 and Shiselweni stands at 2.

CASE DEFINITION

Nkosi revealed that the definition of a suspect case has changed due to the fact that Eswatini has an established local transmission. Therefore, all flu-like illnesses must be considered suspect case of Coronavirus infection, hence the public is encouraged to seek health care as soon as they can.

The Ministry of health assures the nation that the ministry is committed to effect all necessary changes in the intervention thus reshaping the country’s response to the pandemic.

The minister urged emaSwati to avoid public gatherings be it parties, traditional weddings or anything that will bring a lot of people together. She encouraged the nation to continue practicing social distancing.

The Ministry of Health continues to urge the public to wash their hands frequently with soap and running water or use hand sanitizer and to observe hand hygiene always, avoiding touching their faces, and avoiding close contact with (staying at least one meter away from) other people

When coughing or sneezing people are urged to cover to cover their mouth or preferably use a face mask.

 The public is also urged to cooperate with rapid response teams as they go about their duties of finding contacts of positive cases.
