Eswatini records six new confirmed COVID-19 cases, number stands at 106

Mbabane: The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases keeps on increasing day by day.

Eswatini has recorded 6 more new confirmed cases, which makes the total number of cases grow to 106.

This was announced by the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi on Friday afternoon in a press statement.

Announcing results, the Minister of Health through the statement stated that the Ministry received a total of 119 results of which 113 were negative and 6 come out positive, bringing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 106.

According to the statement contact tracing for the confirmed cases has begun. To date Eswatini has now 106 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 12 cases have been treated, and only one has died.

Manzini continues to have the highest number of confirmed cases as it currently stands at 68 cases followed by Hhohho with 23 cases, while Lubombo has 13 and Shiselweni with only 2 cases.

Nkosi went on to appreciate health workers who have continued to work diligently in taking care of the patients on the ground.

The Minister urged emaSwati to avoid public gatherings be it parties, traditional weddings or anything that will bring a lot of people together. She encouraged the nation to continue practicing social distancing.

The Ministry of Health continues to urge the public to wash their hands frequently with soap and running water or use hand sanitizer and to observe hand hygiene always, avoiding touching their faces, and avoiding close contact with (staying at least one meter away from) other people

When coughing or sneezing people are urged to cover to cover their mouth or preferably use a face mask.

 The public is also urged to cooperate with rapid response teams as they go about their duties of finding contacts of positive cases.

Currently Eswatini is still under strict partial lockdown which had seen a number of movements being restricted, allowing only essential service providers to operate.

In the past days, law enforcement officers have been all over the country’s roads and public places to monitor movements of the public which saw thousands of people returned back home if reasons are not satisfactory.

Coronavirus is spreading at a very high rate, globally according to statistics from the coronavirus global data as of May 1, 2020, 5:00pm there were 3,341,599 confirmed cases worldwide with 235,954 deaths and 1,057,350 recoveries since the outbreak over the past five months.
