ACCRA, GHANA – His Majesty King Mswati III and Ghana’s President Dr. John Dramani Mahama have overseen the official signing of a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) between Eswatini and Ghana, aimed at deepening bilateral ties across multiple sectors.
The signing took place at the Jubilee House’s Credentials Hall in Accra shortly after the King arrived for a State visit. Accompanied by Inkhosikati LaMagongo, the King received full ceremonial honours before engaging in closed-door talks with President Mahama.
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Pholile Shakantu signed on behalf of Eswatini, while Ghana’s Foreign Minister Okuzeto Ablakwa represented his country.
The newly established JCC provides a structured platform for cooperation between the two countries in key areas including trade, energy, agriculture, tourism, food processing, education, science and technology, sports, culture, and infrastructure development.
Officials from both sides have agreed to regular consultations between their respective foreign ministries to monitor the progress of joint projects, exchange views on international developments, and propose solutions to any obstacles that may arise.
Eswatini and Ghana are also looking to strengthen collaboration on global peace and security matters. Eswatini currently holds a seat at the African Union Peace and Security Council, and both nations are keen on leveraging the JCC to align their foreign policy efforts on the continent.
The Commission is expected to convene at least once every year, alternating between Eswatini and Ghana. Extraordinary sessions may also be requested when necessary.
The agreement took immediate effect upon signing, with an initial term of five years. It will automatically renew unless terminated by either party with three months’ written notice.
