WASHINGTON DC – United States President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, following nearly two weeks of intense fighting between the two nations.
The ceasefire, which Trump called “Complete and Total,” is expected to begin within six hours of his announcement on Monday evening, with both sides reportedly agreeing to wind down ongoing military operations.
Trump said Iran will initiate the ceasefire, followed by Israel 12 hours later. A full cessation of hostilities is expected after 24 hours, which the president claimed would mark the end of the 12-day conflict.
The announcement was made through Trump’s personal social media account. According to his post, the phased process will see each side observe a peaceful stance while the other implements its ceasefire window.
Trump shared that the agreement was reached while both parties were completing their final missions. He described the conclusion as one the world would salute, once officially recognized after the 24-hour mark.
Shortly after the post, US Vice President JD Vance, speaking on Fox News, credited the deal to Trump’s direct efforts. Vance revealed he had read a draft of the president’s message minutes before going on air and noted Trump had been working on the deal up until the last moment.
Vance also said Iran no longer has the ability to build a nuclear weapon due to the destruction of relevant equipment by US forces.
As of Monday night, neither Iran nor Israel had released any statements confirming the agreement.
