Eswatini joined the rest of the world in marking the 11th United Nations International Day of Yoga on Saturday, with a vibrant event held at Coronation Park’s tennis court in Mbabane under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
The event was hosted by the High Commission of India in partnership with the Mbabane Municipal Council and yoga instructor Ms. Julie Hertslet. Participants from across the country gathered to take part in a morning of yoga, music, and wellness education.
High Commissioner of India to Eswatini, H.E. Mr. N. Ram Prasad, welcomed the participants and spoke about the value of yoga in maintaining mental and physical well-being. Guest of Honour, UN Resident Coordinator Mr. George Wachira, urged attendees to make yoga part of their daily routine.
Mbabane Municipal Council CEO Ms. Gciniwe Fakudze, who served as Chief Guest, also addressed the crowd, encouraging continued participation in healthy lifestyle practices.
UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Henrik Franklin and WHO Country Representative Dr. Susan Tembo were also present.

The event opened with a prayer for peace and harmony before a yoga-themed dance performance by Pramila Natyalaya from Manzini. Ms. Hertslet later led the group through the Common Yoga Protocol — a sequence of postures designed to be accessible for all age groups.
Participation certificates were handed out to those involved in the cultural programme. Saturday’s celebration followed a series of yoga sessions held across Eswatini — including in Matsapha, Manzini and Piggs Peak — ahead of the main event.
