Johannesburg — The family of the late Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has announced that he will be laid to rest in Johannesburg following a private funeral ceremony.
A statement released on Friday by family spokesperson Hon. Makebi Zulu said the decision respects the family’s wishes and expressed gratitude for the widespread support received from across Africa and beyond.
The family thanked the South African government for respecting their privacy and upholding constitutional rights by allowing the funeral to proceed without interference.
Hon. Zulu also acknowledged a condolence visit from South Africa’s Minister of International Relations, Ronald Lamola, who conveyed messages from President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The family asked for peace and unity among Zambians during this difficult time and promised to share further funeral details with the public when available.
