Sigcaweni — The Ministry of Agriculture, joined by its partners and the local community, commemorated the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Day on Thursday, 19 June 2025, at Sigcaweni under Gilgal Inkhundla.

This year’s event, held under the theme “Restore Land, Unlock Opportunities”, focused on reviving degraded land and encouraging sustainable land use to benefit local livelihoods.

Agriculture Minister Mandla Tshawuka addressed residents, commending them for their ongoing efforts in fencing off depleted areas, constructing scoop dams, planting vegetation, and managing erosion-prone zones. He said these actions align with the Kingdom’s land conservation slogan, “Land is our greatest asset, help to conserve it.”

The minister added that restoring land goes beyond environmental care — it offers job opportunities, strengthens rural communities, and builds resilience against the effects of climate change.
