MBABANE – The Ministry of Agriculture and the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) have issued a fresh call for public cooperation as government intensifies efforts to contain the ongoing Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak.
Speaking during a joint press briefing held on Thursday afternoon, officials laid out current containment measures, vaccination plans, and reporting channels aimed at curbing further spread of the disease across the kingdom.
Farmers and livestock traders have been urged to strictly comply with national restrictions, especially regarding the movement of animals and animal products. Veterinary checkpoints will remain active across affected corridors to monitor traffic and enforce regulations.
Only the Ministry of Agriculture is authorised to carry out vaccinations, and only within designated affected zones. The Ministry warned that private vaccination is not allowed under any circumstance, adding that unauthorised use or distribution of vaccines poses further risks.
“Anyone attempting to source or inject vaccines privately could do more harm than good,” an official cautioned.
Citizens are also being asked to remain alert and report any suspicious movement of livestock, including cows, pigs, goats, and sheep, or their by-products. Reports can be made by calling the toll-free number 112, sending a WhatsApp message to 79000112, or visiting the nearest police station or veterinary office.
