MBABANE – A man was arrested for threatening to hack his partner with a bush knife.
The accused, Bheki Mavuso, of Dlangeni, appeared charged with an offence of contravening Section 77(1)(c) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act, No. 15 of 2018, after threatening to hack his partner, Temhlanga Mdziniso, with a bushknife during a domestic dispute.
He has since been sentenced at the Mbabane Magistrates Court by Senior Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati with a two-years imprisonment term with an option of a E2 000 fine.
Mavuso faced two counts, the first being that of displaying domestic violence and the last one being malicious damage to property.
He was accused of damaging a door valued at E700 and a sewing machine estimated at E2 500.
In mitigation, Mavuso pleaded for leniency. He was joking when he told her that and did not intend to harm her. He apologised to Mdziniso and pledged to replace the damaged items.
Vilakati cautioned him, advising Mavuso to accept it when their partners end relationships. Vilakati urged him to walk away instead of resorting to violence.
Despite the nature of the incident, Mdziniso and Mavuso still showed love and were a couple after she told the court that she forgave him because she still loves him.
