Mpolonjeni – Diplomatic efforts extended to environmental care this past week as the High Commissioner of India to Eswatini, His Excellency Mr. N. Ram Prasad, participated in a tree planting campaign in Mpolonjeni. The event, held on the eve of World Environment Day (June 5), saw the High Commission donate 50 trees, including coffee, fruit, and valley chain crops.
High Commissioner Prasad, accompanied by the Head of Chancery Mr. Ajay Sharma, joined the initiative which was coordinated with Ms. Vimbia Kapurura, Executive Director of Women Unlimited Eswatini. The tree donation falls under India’s “Swachchta Abhiyan” and “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” campaigns, designed to protect the environment, help mitigate climate change, and offer sustainable livelihood opportunities to the local community.
Local community leaders, including Chief Zembe Dvuba and Motshane Member of Parliament Mr. Wilton Nkambule, were present to welcome the initiative. Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Prasad spoke about the various green projects through which India is assisting Eswatini, citing examples such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Bio-fuels Alliance.
