Lubombo – Acting Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla yesterday handed over four newly built houses to vulnerable families across the Lubombo Region, as part of an ongoing national effort to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged citizens.
Three of the houses were funded by the government through the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), while one was donated by a private individual who chose to remain anonymous.
The first handover took place in Malindza, under Dvokodweni Inkhundla, where the Pato siblings—Joshua (63), Elizabeth (67), and David (63)—received two separate structures. Joshua and Elizabeth were given a shared two-room house with a bathroom, while David was allocated a one-room unit, also with a bathroom. Dladla acknowledged the siblings’ hands-on contribution to the construction process.
In KaShoba, Mpolonjeni Inkhundla, 58-year-old Lucas Simelane received a one-room house with a bathroom. Simelane had been living in a shack described as dangerous, especially during storms. Having suffered a stroke, he had been struggling to cope with his living conditions.
The final house was delivered to John Bulunga (75) and his wife Elizabeth Matsenjwa (70) in Mzilikazi – Ematjeni, Lugongolweni Inkhundla. The elderly couple had been living in a crumbling structure before receiving the new two-room house, funded by a private donor.
Addressing residents during the handovers, Dladla called on members of the public with means to step in and support those living in poverty. She said the initiative supports His Majesty King Mswati III’s call for every Liswati to have access to decent shelter.
