LAVUMISA – A nationwide push to boost youth digital literacy took a significant step forward on Tuesday with the launch of the Youth Digital Skills Training Programme in Lavumisa.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of ICT through the Eswatini National Library Services, is supported by ESCCOM, MTN Eswatini, and the MTN Foundation. It aims to bridge the digital divide by equipping young people across the country with practical technology skills needed in the modern economy.
So far, more than 2,300 young people have signed up for the programme, and over 100 participants have already earned certification. The training is available to youth across the country — from Lavumisa to Siteki, Simunye to Ezulwini — and focuses on preparing them to become coders, engineers, and digital entrepreneurs.
Speaking during the launch, ICT Minister Savannah Maziya said digital skills are now a basic necessity. She challenged young people, especially girls in rural areas, to seize the moment and build innovations that can impact not just their communities, but the continent at large.
“Digital literacy is no longer a privilege. It is a right,” said Maziya. “The world is becoming faster, more connected, and more digital. It needs you.”
Echoing the same message, Eswatini Communications Commission Chief Executive Mvilawemphi Dlamini said the country’s future lies in the hands of its youth. He pointed to their potential to transform the economy through energy, creativity, and ambition.
