Mbabane, April 24 — Eswatini and Taiwan have signed a new agreement aimed at combating information manipulation and strengthening digital integrity, marking a fresh chapter in their bilateral partnership.

Foreign Affairs Minister Pholile Shakantu and her Taiwanese counterpart, Dr. Lin Chia-lung, formalized the deal during a signing ceremony held earlier today. The Memorandum of Understanding outlines plans for technical cooperation, training, and joint action to detect and counter disinformation across both countries.

Shakantu described the partnership as timely, calling it a “testament” to the joint resolve of both nations in confronting one of the most urgent challenges in the digital age. She welcomed the initiative as another meaningful collaboration with Taiwan, which she praised for its continued support of Eswatini.

“This is a promising moment for Eswatini,” she said. “We stand to benefit from Taiwan’s deep experience in managing digital threats.”

Dr. Lin pointed to Taiwan’s own long-standing battle with digital attacks as a valuable foundation for this cooperation. He said the country has developed effective strategies and now aims to share them with Eswatini to bolster national resilience against fake news and cyber manipulation.

“Taiwan will assist, and Eswatini will lead in Africa,” Lin said. “Through this agreement, we’ll identify major threats and work together on training and knowledge-sharing to support national growth and information security.”
