A 50-hectare bean production initiative was launched yesterday, April 9, at Paradise Farm in Shiselweni 1 Inkhundla, marking a major push toward Eswatini’s agricultural independence.
The project is a joint effort by the Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (EWADE), the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and the National Maize Corporation (NMC). The collaboration was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), uniting three state-owned entities around a shared goal—achieving national food sovereignty.
The new venture aligns directly with the Ministry of Agriculture’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan. It also feeds into the country’s broader ambition of cultivating 10,000 hectares of land for bean production, with an output target of 10,000 metric tons.
Officials say the project will enhance local food security, create income opportunities for communities, and strengthen climate resilience in rural areas. The development signals a forward-looking step toward ensuring every household in Eswatini has access to reliable and nutritious food sources.
