Eswatini recorded a major win for energy conservation during Earth Hour 2025, saving 26.6 megawatts—surpassing the 25MW target set by the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC). The event, held at House on Fire, saw thousands of citizens switching off non-essential lights and appliances from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM in a collective push for sustainability.
The nationwide switch-off highlighted the growing commitment to environmental responsibility, with communities, businesses, and institutions uniting to make a tangible difference. EEC Managing Director Ernest Mkhonta praised the achievement and urged people to integrate energy-saving habits into their daily lives. Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Lindiwe Mbingo, described the event as a demonstration of how unified action can drive real change.
Attendees gathered for a night under the stars, reinforcing the message that Earth Hour is about more than just turning off lights—it’s a call to action for lasting environmental impact. The event, supported by EEC’s partners and stakeholders, aimed to inspire long-term efforts toward sustainability. With free tickets made available online, participation was widespread, adding to the momentum for energy efficiency in Eswatini.
