Mbabane- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy has just announced an 80cents per litre fuel price increase, effective Thursday, midnight, 6th March 2025 (Friday, 7th March 2025).
“The fuel price increase is the result of the under recoveries/deficit incurred in the fuel products in the months of January 2025 and February 2025,” the Acting Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy Sicelo Nxumalo said in a press statement.
With the new prices, Unleaded Petrol (ULP 95) will increase from E19.80/litre to E20.60/litre.
Diesel 50 ppm S will increase from E20.20/litre to E21.00/litre.
Illuminating Paraffin will increase from E14.55/litre to E15.35/litre.
The Ministry said international Brent crude oil prices increased, hence the under recoveries.
The government also said that the Lilangeni (pegged to the Rand)/Dollar exchange rate contributed negatively.
The currency “depreciated in the month of January 2025, trading at an average of E18.80 to the US Dollar.”
“Despite the slight improvement in the international crude oil prices and Lilangeni/Dollar exchange rate in the month of February 2025, the fuel products still carried under recoveries/deficit,” Nxumalo said.
