Mbabane – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini addressed the House of Assembly on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, engaging in an extensive debate over the annual performance report for the Private and Cabinet Office. Lawmakers examined key national concerns, including economic growth, service delivery, healthcare, education, governance, and the welfare of law enforcement officers.

During the session, Members of Parliament posed probing questions, fulfilling their mandate to hold the government accountable. While a comprehensive written response is set to be provided, the government took the opportunity to address some of the most urgent issues, notably Eswatini’s reaction to the recent withdrawal of U.S. foreign aid.

Acknowledging the financial challenge posed by the aid cut, Dlamini described it as a turning point for the country’s drive toward economic self-reliance. He said the government is working to reduce reliance on foreign support by driving economic growth and strengthening local industries, in line with the national Programme of Action.

As part of mitigation efforts, the Cabinet directed the Ministry of Health to assess the full impact of the aid withdrawal. A preliminary report has been submitted, with further evaluations underway. Meanwhile, a sustainability plan is being developed to ensure essential services continue without disruption.

Dlamini also addressed concerns about alleged divisions within the Cabinet and reports of travel restrictions on ministers. He said while differing viewpoints exist within governance, the Cabinet remains united in serving the country. He explained that ministerial travel requests are assessed based on national priorities.
