EU Donates about E192 000,  Malindza Refugee Reception Center Accommodates 1000 refugees

Malindza- After Mozambique was hit back by political unrest resulting to violence, quite a number of people fled to Eswatini seeking shelter at Malindza Refugee camp resulting to increase in the number of asylums, fortunately enough European Union (EU) and other implementing partners came to aid and donated items worth E192 000 at Malindza Refugee.

The EU Delegation, led by its Ambassador, His Excellence Karsten Mecklenburg and the Head of Cooperation Eva- Maria Engdahl and partners Lisa Zannerini – COSPE Southern Africa Regional Director, agencies and government, made the official handover of the items. The items include 100 mattresses, 100 blankets, 100 pallets, 100 sanitary pads, 150 diapers and other hygiene Kits. The items were purchased as part of the EU partnership with Youth and Women Empowerment and Support YES project on its emergency Response Fund, following the on- site assessment carried out by home affairs and World Vision. 

The European Union Delegation, in partnership with COSPE together with the YES project partners Luvatsi, Swaziland Rural Women’s Assembly, kwakha Indvodza and Gcama Mfati) allocated 10 000 Euros (192 238) of the YES project Emergency Response Fund. The items were meant for refugees, who have been arriving at the center since the unrest in Novermber. During an interview with Marklenburg he mentioned that it was indeed necessary for the donation to be made looking mostly at the number as it was increasing. He further mentioned that they understood that the centre, which was now occupied by over 1500 people including those who have been staying in the centre over the years.

Due to Moz violence, number of people fled to seek shelter here in ESwatini, stated Bongekile Mamba, the Estate Manager of the Malindza Refugee Reception Centre, she also thanked the EU and its partners for the support, there have given to the people and that it would make the lives of the asylum seekers much better. She also mentioned that after the inauguration others have been going back to home to try and pick up the piece left behind, which was a good thing considering the fact that number has been increasing drastically.
