Mbabane -The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) of Eswatini, in collaboration with the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), has officially launched the Eswatini Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This initiative, themed “Asiphepheni, Secure Our World,” aims to raise public awareness about the importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding the country’s digital future. The campaign is focused on equipping emaSwati—citizens, businesses, and institutions—with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate cyberspace safely and securely.

In a world where cyber threats are ever-increasing, this awareness campaign comes at a critical time. It seeks to address the growing concern of online fraud, data breaches, and identity theft by educating the public on how to recognize and prevent such incidents. The campaign aims to ensure that every emaSwati understands how to protect themselves and their data in the digital landscape, while also informing them on how to report cyber incidents when they occur.

The digital age has made children increasingly vulnerable to online threats such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and online predators. This segment of the campaign will focus on educating both children and parents about safe internet practices, such as managing privacy settings, recognizing potential threats, and maintaining healthy online interactions.

With cybercriminals employing increasingly sophisticated tactics, the risk of identity theft and online scams has never been higher. This part of the campaign will teach citizens how to protect their personal information, avoid phishing scams, and securely manage online transactions. Individuals and businesses alike will be shown how to recognize and respond to suspicious activities that could result in financial or data loss.

Whether it’s for personal use or business operations, safe browsing practices are essential in preventing cyber-attacks. The campaign will emphasize the importance of secure internet connections, the use of strong and unique passwords, and staying updated with the latest cybersecurity software. Businesses will also receive guidance on securing their digital infrastructure to prevent data breaches that could have devastating impacts on operations.

In addition to the general public, the campaign will target specific sectors such as law enforcement, the judiciary, and the business community. By educating these sectors, the initiative aims to build a robust national response to cyber threats. Law enforcement officers and the judiciary will be equipped with the skills to investigate and prosecute cybercrimes effectively. Meanwhile, the business community will learn how to protect their digital assets and adopt cybersecurity best practices to safeguard their operations.

The overarching goal of the Eswatini Cybersecurity Awareness Month is to foster a cyber-resilient society that is proactive in protecting itself from digital threats. By creating a more informed and vigilant population, Eswatini aims to secure its digital landscape and future-proof the nation against evolving cyber risks. This initiative is not only about raising awareness but also about empowering individuals and institutions to take responsibility for their own online safety.
