Mbabane :The Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini and the European Union have today signed a financing agreement to the value of approximately E562 Million. The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development has signed the agreement on behalf of Government.
The agreement covers two projects; the Skills for Youth Employability, Entrepreneurship & Empowerment as well as a Cooperation Facility and Support to Civil Society Organisations in Eswatini. The signing has been done on International Day of Education.
Minister of Economic Planning and Development Dr Thambo Gina: “This gesture is indication of a good cooperation that exists between this country and the European Union. It also demonstrates the EU’s commitment to support the country technically, financially and morally even in times of difficulty.”
EU Ambassador H.E Dessislava Choumelova: “The next phase of our partnership with Eswatini will thus reflect both the country’s national priorities as well as the EU’s priorities, values and interests. We will aim to support the youth and women, placing them at the centre of our programme.”
The EU is currently increasing its investment in education in partner countries, including Eswatini. The EU has pledged to substantially increase education funding from 7% to at least 10% for its cooperation with Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
