Mbabane: As Cyclone Eloise has severely wreaked havoc, leaving a significant number of people homeless and subsequently having no food, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) will distribute food parcels to those affected households.
According to NDMA’s situational report issued on Tuesday morning, the agency will distribute the food parcels to those affected areas and that will be done as soon as all these become accessible. The agency said rapid assessment will commence on January 26, 2021, which is this Tuesday.
The agency disclosed that 105 people were displaced at Game 5 valley in Gig-Bend. Over 1 400 people were left homeless following the cyclone that brought heavy rains along its path with wind speed reaching 110km/hr in some areas.
All major rivers in the country reported flooding, resulting in washing away of several low-level bridges and mud slides especially along the road sides.
As of Monday, damage to infrastructure was reported in a number of areas; Hhohho Region reported 34 households damaged, leaving 170 people affected. Lubombo 22 households: 110 people affected.
Manzini 77 households: 425 people affected and Shiselweni region reported 133 households.
705 people affected in total as of yesterday there were 266 households damaged and 1410 people affected.
NDMA also disclosed that less rainfall is projected in the next few days.
