Mbabane: With new management, the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) has in place a new business model which is planned to take the organization into the next level.

This is contained in the SMVA integrated report 2020 that was presented to the media alongside a four year strategy 2021-2024.

The report states that MVA embarked on a new strategic plan and framing the operation model for the fund that would enable the implementation of the new strategy, which is set to take place in the next financial year 2021. This comes after the recruitment of the new CEO David Myeni and restructuring in Management.

Research shows that a business model is a company’s core strategy for profitably doing business. Models generally include information like products or services the business plans to sell, target markets, and any anticipated expenses.

The report states that the new model and the plan depends on a number of changes some resolvable within the fund some require legislative interventions, and this include the review of the fuel levy and amendments of the MVA act of 2011.

In the new model the fund will establish partnerships with emergency services and other relevant stakeholders including the best treatment practice and where necessary evacuation of accident victims to the republic of South Africa.

SMVA was established under the motor vehicle accidents act No.13 of 1991 (the Act) in order to create and instrument whereby victims of road accidents could be compensated without having to recourse to third party insurance that, for many in the years in the years leading up to the legislation was unaffordable.

The income that supports the operations of the fund is a levy paid by all drivers and vehicle owners at the point of fuel purchases

According to the integrated report the most important part of the operating model will be rationalization of Ekuphileni Clinic so that it functions as a standalone facility with services opened to the public.  This will enable MVA to optimize the services while ensuring that the clinic the clinic becomes self-sustainable.

The new business model focusses on utilizing Ekuphileni clinic making it a standalone entity by April 2021.

MVA will also adopt a proactive strategy when dealing with road traffic accidents. Patients will now be attended and evacuated from the accident scene with MVA case management staff following the cases and closing them within a short space. MVA will now focus on emergency evacuation of accident victims.

This model will now benefit accident victims as MVA will be helping them from evacuation in the accident scene throughout the entire process and compensating them.

The proactive model according to the MVA boss will help much in reducing the costs while ensuring good customer service and seamless access to SMVA services.

MVA CEO said they will continue to learn from experience gained as they implement the proposed changes ensuring sustainability of the organization and delivering services efficiently. He noted that in other countries in the SDAC region they have already started implementing the same business model which they hope it will enable them to do so as they will continue to learn from them.
