Mbabane: ‘My life is at stake and therefore whether or not the dust finally settles I am not returning to the police force,’ stated police officer Lucky ‘Obama’ Matsenjwa who was acquitted and discharged in the murder case against Mduduzi ‘Schaza’ Matsebula in February this year.

Matsebula was murdered in May 2017.

Matsenjwa was speaking during a press conference with various media houses. He said it was glaring to see that some high ranking officials including former high ranking police officers and correctional services personnel were up in arms against him, all to conceal information pertaining to deleting fingerprints for certain individuals. “My sin is that I stood my ground and refused to delete fingerprints for certain people that had been promised jobs within the civil service,” said Matsenjwa, adding that the death of ‘Schaza’ was merely used as leverage to pin him down.

Matsenjwa said he has lost trust in the police service organization and termed them corrupt to the core, contrary to what they vowed to do for the force at training.

At the conference, Matsenjwa continually punched holes in the submissions of witnesses in the murder case which according to him were contradictory and nothing but a plot to get him convicted. All along Matsenjwa did not divulge names of some individuals involved in the murder case, saying when the time was right he would definitely do so.

In February, the High Court granted Matsenjwa bail fixed at E50 000 of which he paid E5 000 in cash and provided surety for the balance.

The presiding judge, Judge Mamba found that there was no evidence that Matsenjwa had an input whatsoever in the killing of Matsebula and consequently acquitted him on six other charges which included theft, contempt of court, defeating and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

His release on bail came after he moved an urgent application for bail following his acquittal and discharge on some of the charges he was facing following the brutal murder of Matsebula.

As part of his bail conditions, Matsenjwa was ordered to surrender his passport and other valid international travel documents to the investigating officer and to not apply for new ones pending finalization of his matter.

He was further directed to report in person monthly at the Manzini Police Station following his release and to refrain from speaking or communicating with any prosecution witnesses in the case against him. He is also to remain within the Kingdom of the Eswatini for the duration of his case.

The court also directed him to provide the investigating officer with his residential address.
