Eswatini football has witnessed a dramatic spell of coaching changes, with four coaches leaving their respective clubs within two weeks following a series of disappointing results and reported financial challenges.
The latest developments have placed Amawele, Mbabane Highlanders AM, Mbabane Swallows and Tabankulu Celtics in the spotlight, with each club facing a change in technical leadership.
Amawele made headlines after dismissing Mpumelelo Ngwenya following just one match in charge. Ngwenya’s brief spell ended after the team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Ezulwini United.
The decision means Ngwenya’s tenure lasted only one game, highlighting the pressure coaches face to deliver immediate results in local football.
At Mbabane Highlanders AM, Floyd Mogale resigned after four matches in charge. His record stood at one win, one draw and two defeats before his departure.
Mogale’s exit followed a 1-0 loss to Nsingizini Hotspurs on Saturday. His departure also came amid reported disagreements with the club’s management over interference in his coaching duties and training arrangements.
Meanwhile, Mbabane Swallows were left without head coach Sindiso Gama, who resigned on October 15. Gama reportedly cited unpaid salaries and a lack of fuel money as reasons for his decision, with the coach stating, “No salary, no petrol.”
His departure has brought financial challenges within the coaching setup into focus, adding another dimension to the recent wave of changes.
Tabankulu Celtics have also parted ways with Sonnyboy Zitha, who was reportedly dismissed today following a difficult run of results. The coach’s departure came after the team suffered four defeats in five matches.
The developments have seen four coaching positions affected within a short period, with clubs taking different routes in responding to their respective situations.
While Ngwenya and Zitha were dismissed, Mogale and Gama resigned from their positions.
The latest departures underline the uncertain nature of coaching jobs in the local game, where poor results and challenges behind the scenes can quickly bring an end to a coach’s tenure.
