Buhleni – A 28-year-old man accused of stealing a nanny goat worth E1 500 has told the court that he needs to be out of custody to care for the mother of his child, whom he lives with.
Thokozani Innocent Mabuza of Mavula, under Chief Mvelase, made the submission during his bail application before Magistrate Cebsile Ngwenya at the Buhleni Circuit Court, where he faces a stock theft charge.
Mabuza told the court that he was the only person staying at home after his parents separated. He said he lived with the mother of his child, whom he had to take care of.
The Crown did not oppose the application, and the court granted him bail of E3 000.
According to the charge sheet, Mabuza allegedly stole a red-and-white nanny goat valued at E1 500, belonging to or in the lawful possession of Tjanikati Mabuza, at Mayiwane on or about August 26, 2026.
He is charged with contravening Section 3(a), read with Section 18(1), of the Stock Theft Act No. 5 of 1982, as amended.
As part of his bail conditions, Mabuza was ordered not to interfere with Crown witnesses, not to commit a similar offence and to comply with all other bail requirements.
The matter was scheduled for trial on November 3, 2026. He was released from custody subject to the bail conditions.
