EPTC turns to government services to keep post offices
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ezulwini- As traditional mail volumes decline, the Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (EPTC) is repositioning its nationwide post office network as a channel for government services, with 34 branches now enabling emaSwati to make payments for public services.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), is part of efforts to revitalise post office branches while making government services more accessible to communities across the country.

EPTC Managing Director Thulani Fakudze highlighted the partnership as one of the organization’s significant developments during the commemoration of World Post Day 2026 at Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini.

Fakudze, who joined EPTC three months ago after serving at the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM), said the initiative demonstrated how postal infrastructure could be adapted to meet changing public needs while supporting financial inclusion and national development.

The partnership comes as postal operators face the challenge of remaining relevant in an increasingly digital economy, where electronic communication has reduced reliance on conventional letter delivery.

Under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities”, this year’s commemoration highlighted the potential of the postal network to extend beyond traditional mail services and support broader economic and social activities.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology Prince Mshishimba Dlamini challenged postal operators to look beyond the survival of traditional services and consider how their existing infrastructure could be used to respond to the demands of a digital economy.

“The question before us is no longer whether postal services will survive the digital age. Rather, it is how postal operators can leverage their unique assets to become indispensable players within an increasingly digital economy,” he said.

Dlamini pointed to EswatiniPost’s nationwide presence as a strategic asset that could be used to connect communities, expand access to digital financial services, support e-commerce and bring government services closer to the public.

He said the future of postal services would depend on their ability to embrace innovation, connectivity and inclusion, adding that a modern postal network could help promote entrepreneurship, create employment opportunities and advance the country’s digital transformation agenda.

“The future of the Post Office is defined by its ability to reinvent itself as a platform for innovation, connectivity, inclusion, and economic opportunity,” he emphasized.

The developments signal a shift in how postal infrastructure can contribute to the economy, with the network’s value increasingly extending to the services it can deliver rather than mail distribution alone.
