Manzini – SiSwati literature has received a financial boost, with Imisebe Publishers awarding E21 000 to writers whose novels emerged at the top of its writing competition.
Skhanyiso Bophela took first position with Impela Ngiyawuke Ngive, receiving E10 000, while 16-year-old Silindelewena Dlongolo claimed second position with Ingabe Iselephi and walked away with E5 000.
Third position was shared by Nombulelo Mndzebele, whose novel Lutsandvo Lolungenamuncele was recognised alongside Gcina Mhlanga’s Emadlelo Laluhlata. Each received E3 000.
The competition provided writers with an opportunity to submit their creative works for assessment while creating a platform for their writing to reach a wider audience.
Dlongolo, a learner at Duze High School in Siphofaneni, was the youngest writer among those recognised.
She said the opportunity had encouraged her to continue developing her writing.
“This opportunity will inspire me to keep writing and growing,” said Dlongolo.
Her achievement also places a young writer among the competition’s recognised authors, showing the range of writers participating in efforts to promote SiSwati literature.
Dr Hugh Magagula encouraged writers to remain committed to their craft regardless of the outcome of competitions.
He said failing to win should not take away from a writer’s identity or discourage them from continuing to develop their work.
“Keep writing, believe in your work and continue pursuing your passion,” Magagula said.
The recognition of the four winning entries has also highlighted the role of publishing initiatives in creating opportunities for writers to showcase their work and build audiences.
Through the competition, Imisebe Publishers has provided both financial recognition and a platform for writers to continue developing and presenting their literary work.
