HLATIKHULU- Eswatini’s emerging hip-hop artist Cate Officixl is making a powerful return with the re-release of his inspirational single “Emakhaya,” featuring fellow musician Siantor Siwela. Produced and mastered by Dark Child Studio, the song delivers an emotional message of hope, sacrifice and perseverance, highlighting the journey of young people who leave their rural homes in pursuit of better opportunities.
Originally inspired by the artists’ own experiences, Emakhaya tells the story of countless young emaSwati who migrate from rural communities to urban centres in search of employment, education and a brighter future. Both Cate Officixl and Siantor Siwela hail from Hlatikulu in the Shiselweni Region, where limited opportunities encouraged them to relocate to Matsapha with dreams of changing their lives and supporting their families back home.
The idea for the song was born while the pair lived together in Matsapha. They spent hours freestyling, encouraging one another to remain focused on their goals, eventually transforming those conversations into a heartfelt anthem that resonates with many young dreamers.
“Emakhaya is our story, but it’s also the story of thousands of young people,” said Cate Officixl. “We wanted people to know that when we leave home, it isn’t because we’ve forgotten our families. We leave because we’re chasing opportunities that can help us change our lives and give back to the people who raised us.”
The song has struck a chord with listeners for its honest storytelling and relatable message, reminding families that although their children may be far from home, they continue to carry their loved ones in their hearts while striving for a better future.
The release also strengthens the growing musical partnership between Cate Officixl and Siantor Siwela, whose recent collaboration, “Emlanjeni,” has been well received by music lovers across the country.
Looking ahead, Cate Officixl has ambitious plans for his career. He hopes to collaborate with local star Mr Kangaroo, whom he credits as one of the artists who inspired him to pursue music, while also dreaming of working with South African rap heavyweights Nasty C and Usimamane.
The rapper has also revealed that he is working on a forthcoming single titled “On Time,” featuring Lucky Mohawk. Although details remain under wraps, he says his immediate focus is ensuring that Emakhaya reaches as many listeners as possible.
With its authentic lyrics, emotional depth and uplifting message, Emakhaya stands as more than just another hip-hop release. It is a heartfelt tribute to every young person who leaves home carrying the hopes of their family, believing that today’s sacrifices will one day create a better tomorrow.
