MBABANE— Eswatini’s rising hip-hop star Notik, whose real name is Sabelo Mavuso, is gearing up to make waves in the local music scene with the release of his latest collaboration, “Sondzela,” featuring talented artist Thaifo Son, born Thabiso Mtsetfwa.
Notik’s musical journey began in 2018 after being inspired by South African rap superstar Cassper Nyovest. According to the artist, Cassper’s songwriting ability, stage presence, and energetic performances motivated him to pursue a career in music.
Since entering the industry, Notik has worked closely with producer NevesAox, exploring the drill-inspired side of hip-hop.
The partnership has already produced positive results, including the street anthem “Sanbuka,” which continues to gain popularity among music lovers.
He is currently working under MeltingC, further developing his sound and artistic direction.
Over the years, Notik has built an impressive performance résumé, appearing on several notable stages, including the Eswatini Farmers Market, Umuthi Fest, and the Maletsunyane Braai Festival in Lesotho. Fans can also look forward to seeing him perform at this year’s Momo Experience, where “Sondzela” is expected to make its official debut.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Notik revealed that the beat was influenced by the energy and feel of SETE. The lyrics, however, came together through a freestyle session. He explained that Thaifo Son immediately connected with the song’s vibe and energy, making the collaboration feel natural after both artists had been discussing working together for some time.
“Sondzela” tells the story of unconditional love and commitment. Through the song, Notik expresses his desire to openly love and stand by his partner regardless of the challenges or circumstances she may be facing.
