Govt, World Vision hand over vehicles to boost water service delivery

Mbabane- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy and World Vision Eswatini have strengthened efforts to expand access to clean water with the handover of two service vehicles to the Department of Water Affairs.

The vehicles, jointly funded by government of Eswatini and World Vision Eswatini, were officially handed over by Minister in line Prince Lonkhokhela and will be deployed across 18 constituencies, including Mhlangatane, Hhukwini and Mahlangatja. They are expected to enhance mobility for technical teams, improve response times, and support the rollout of water infrastructure projects.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Prince described the donation as timely, noting that it comes as the country continues to celebrate His Majesty King Mswati III’s 58th birthday, 40 years on the throne, and the opening of the International Convention Centre. He also commended World Vision Eswatini for sustaining its partnership with government since the agreement was commissioned in July last year.

Meanwhile, World Vision Eswatini’s National Director Amos Zaindi said the provision of the vehicles reflects a shared commitment to achieving universal water service coverage by 2030. He said the partnership prioritises equipping project teams with the necessary tools to deliver services efficiently across all targeted constituencies.

Since the launch of the project in 2025, seven water schemes have been completed and are operational, while eight more are under construction. The organisation expressed confidence that the additional resources will accelerate implementation and ensure timely delivery of services.

The vehicles will be shared between the Department of Water Affairs and the project team, with both parties expected to collaborate on their management and maintenance to ensure accountability and effective use.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by government and its partners to expand access to safe and reliable water, particularly in underserved communities, in line with national development goals.
