ICT Minister, Savannah Maziya, has warned journalists against unethical practices, including the dangers of the “brown envelope”, saying such conduct undermines credibility and public trust.
Speaking during World Press Freedom Day celebrations at Happy Valley, Maziya called on media practitioners to be responsible with their careers and uphold integrity in their reporting.
She raised concern over the consolidation of media, cautioning that it risks replacing factual reporting with opinions and advertising-driven content, weakening the media’s oversight role.
Maziya also linked the rapid rise of social media to declining trust in traditional media, noting that as audiences perceive a shift away from truth, they increasingly turn to alternative platforms such as podcasts for information.
She emphasised that ethical journalism, grounded in truth and accountability, remains key to restoring public confidence.
